  • NEW YORK STATE PODIATRIC MEDICAL ASSOCIATION HONORS

PODIATRISTS WHO VOLUNTEERED TO HELP WTC RECOVERY
    WORKERS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Dr. Richard Belli, a podiatrist, of Woodside, New York, was recognized by the New York State Podiatric Medical Association for volunteering his time and professional expertise for rescue and recovery crews at ground zero of New York City's World Trade Center disaster site. The award was made on February 2, 2002 during the 2002 New York Podiatric Clinical Conference and Exhibition sponsored by the Foundation for Podiatric Medicine.

The New York State Podiatric Medical Association and the New York College of Podiatric Medicine responded immediately to the call for help following the terrorist attacks on September 11th, 2001. Podiatrists and residents mobilized to provide aid at Bellevue' and Metropolitan hospitals on the day of the attacks. Their efforts shifted to aid the rescue workers laboring at ground zero at a clinic housed at St. Paul's Chapel, one block from the disaster area, where they have offered round-the-clock assistance seven days a week.

In addition to foot care, the doctors have donated footgear and medical supplies to the effort.

"Our volunteers have pledge to be involved as long as our help is needed," remarked Don Feldman, president of the New York State Podiatric Medical Association, when awarding the certificate of recognition. "We are proud of those professionals in our field who chose to give back to a city that suffered and lost so much," he added.

Podiatrists diagnose, treat, operate and prescribe medication for any disease, injury, deformity, or other conditions of the foot. Medicare covers many foot problems, as do HMOs and other insurance companies. Founded in 1895, the New York State Podiatric Medical Association is the premier professional organization for Doctors of Podiatric Medicine in New York State.

  • Dr. Belli,

Thank you so much for coming to see my mother and caring for her. You are a very special person to do this and it means a lot to me.

    Gratefully,

    - Peggy
  • I know I don't thank you for all the nice things you do for me but I am very grateful to you. Whenever I come to you I feel like a spoiled brat. Anytime I call or need you, your right there for me and anytime I need things for my feet you let me have it (bandages, tape, etc). When I had the bills coming to the house you took care of them and also other things you helped me with. I just can't thank you enough for everything. I just hope I can return favors on day.

  • Dear. Dr. Belli & Staff,

It has been thirty six hours since I have been in to see you. I am writing to say thank you for your professionalism, courtesy and especially your immediate attention to the pain I was experiencing.Fifty years ago I remember doctors making house calls and their kindness and caring was called a "bedside manner." I never thought I would see that again. I did, three days ago when I visited your office. Once again, thank you.

    Sincerely,
